O Lord, open our lips;
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Opening Sentance
Then Melchizedek, the king of Salem (Jerusalem), who was a priest of the God of Highest Heaven, brought him bread and wine.. . . . Genesis 14:18
Psalm 146
- Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul! - I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God all my life long. - Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortals, in whom there is no help. - When their breath departs, they return to the earth;
on that very day their plans perish. - Happy are those whose helper is the God of Jacob;
whose hope is in the Lord their God. - who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them;
who keeps a promise for ever. - who defends the cause of the oppressed;
and gives food to the hungry. - The Lord sets free the prisoner, and gives sight to the blind;
the Lord raises up those bowed down,
and loves those who are just. - The Lord cares for the stranger in the land,
and sustains the widows and orphans;
but turns the way of the wicked to ruin. - The Lord shall reign for ever;
your God O Jerusalem shall reign for all generations,
O praise the Lord.
Prayer
The night has passed and the day lies open before us;
let us pray with one heart and mind:
( Silence may be kept)
As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and for ever.
Amen.
